"Before I Die" the chalkboard experiment

The class premise is to do/be all sorts of experiments related to the theory and production of public spaces. Through our work we seek to develop collective knowledge and wake people from the trance, while simultaneously enhance the quality of our public spaces. The original set of experiment ideas can be seen in our "mobile experiment ideas" tab. As a class students searched for ideas that could be easily implemented on an extreme low budget (what we have to work with currently). 

Amongst many projects proposed students voted and the top three choices have been or are undergoing implementation. The first experiment in progress is the result of Kyle Buser's finding of the following link:

The materials for the double-sided chalkboard were readily available and the labor was that of the 22 class members who collectively constructed, painted, mobilized and made things happen. Prior to an official "roll out" the chalkboard was placed near the senior Landscape Architecture studio where many people walk by. In was filled out in a day...

The first official roll out of the chalkboard took place on the quad of our SUNY ESF campus on Friday, March 29, 2013. A camera was setup on the third floor of a nearby building and during the day a camera captured a photo every 10 seconds, video is being developed and analyzed. Additionally, actual video footage was recorded for 20 minutes.
